Pirate Walks, Bristol
Year round
Did you know that Blackbeard was supposedly born in Bristol? Pretty cool!
Pirate Walks are a great way for the family and kids to not only see the city, but learn all about the menacing pirates that lived in the area
The walks are around an hour, and you can pick which one is best for you. It’s where you can learn how important Bristol was as a pirate port, and hear the tales of yester year and life as a pirate!
Pirates Quest, Newquay
Pirate’s Quest is an immersive walk-through experience which combines talented theatrical actors, amazing special effects, and detailed 360⁰ sets in an authentic, atmospheric adventure.
The hour long voyage will also allow you and your crew-mates to feel, hear, smell and see Cornwall’s intriguing legends and exciting history, from King Arthur and Merlin to Smugglers and Giants.
Your journey will begin with a LIVE pirate helping you escape a shipwreck – all the actors are skilled in pitching their performance to each individual group. Your pirate guide will then lead you through several different sets and scenes; mystical caves, murky streets, and even an eighteenth century Tavern! Eventually you’ll arrive at the Captain’s Ship, ready to set sail!
The last section is self-guided so spend as much time as you like exploring Below Decks and the Captain’s Cabin, before returning to the Treasure Shoppe with your completed Treasure Map to claim your Pirate Booty!
Golden Hind, London
The Ship strikes a great balance between living history, learning, and FUN! For the children, it’s an exciting ‘Pirate Ship’ to explore and for adults an opportunity to learn about Drake’s momentus Tudor circumnavigation.
Explore, see & sense life on board and the cramped and atrocious conditions the crew would have had to endured during extremes of cold and heat, not to mention being continuously drenched in sea water and with a lack of fresh water and food.
See the Great Cabin and rear balcony and see how the ten officers and gentlemen lived as well as seeing typical weapons and guns that they carried during their voyage of over 1000 days.
Discover the lower gun deck on the full size replica with atmospheric lighting and uneven creaking floor planks, featuring realistic displays and artefacts including the surgeon, gunner and carpenter’s quarters.
Learn about Drake’s life, from a modest Devonian background, to become one of the most famous men in the world.
Try hands on activities such as rope tying & rope hauling as well as a full size ship’s wheel!
Captain Blackheart of Brixham is on board Mondays to Fridays from 13th February and throughout the summer.
So get out there and have a swashbuckling time these holidays with Blackbeard, Jack Sparrow, and kids – make sure you DRESS UP!
